Biography
YiCong Gao is a versatile music composer from Canada, creates music for Film, Television, and Video Games. His compositions blend the colourful language of Romanticism harmony, cinematic music writing, modern music elements, and influences from various genres.
He mostly taught himself how to compose, orchestrate, and play various instruments (including piano/keys, guitar, bass guitar, and drums). He is adept in a range of music genres. His skill extends across classical, choral, jazz, rock, funk, pop, and contemporary music, giving him a diverse and rich palette for his compositions. He pursued Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music (MM '23), and Music and Computer Science at the University of Victoria (BSc '20). His mentor include, Alfons Conde, Vicent Ortiz Gimeno, Sergio Jimenez Lacima, and Lucio Godoy.
His works have been performed by several orchestras across North America and Europe. Including collaborations as a composer, orchestrator, and/or conductor with the following: the London Philharmonia Orchestra, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, and the UVic Symphony Orchestra.
Gao’s compositions strive to establish an emotional connection with musicians and audiences in various ways, such as fostering the music performance of diverse culture backgrounds, integrating interactive music elements, and engaging in multimedia scoring.
